Hi, I’m Mike Wright with founder of Taxwright. I started this business to help people deal with the complexity involved with simply filing taxes.
Everyone has to file taxes every year. And yet it has become so difficult to know what to do and how to do it. Newspapers, TV, your neighbors and your relatives all barrage you with tips and ideas on tax filing. Software programs and paid tax preparers of all levels of skill try to get you to pay them money to do your taxes. It really doesn’t make much sense. And one of my favorites is the disclaimer that says you should “consult with your own tax advisor” before making any decisions about your tax filing.
I started out in 1972 doing insurance audits–making annual visits to businesses of all sizes to determine their sales and payroll. As I learned more about people and their finances–whether personal or business–I learned that people simply need help to do what needs to be done correctly.
In 1992 I began doing taxes for people, and it became my full time activity in 1998. I made it my purpose to help and explain and warn and advise all of my clients about their taxes. Where many professionals simply provide the service of taking the client’s information and putting it in the form, I wanted to do more. I wanted to help people learn what they could do to minimize their tax bills, make paying what they do owe as simple as possible, and to simply help make sense of a screwy tax system.
